Zoom as MCP Client

Developers or partners connect their own remote MCP servers to Zoom, making their tools and data available inside AI Studio to use with Zoom AI Companion or a custom agent. This approach is ideal when you want Zoom's AI experiences to use your existing systems, data sources, or proprietary tools.

Prerequisites

CAIC License

There is no cost to use the MCP servers or their tools; however, only customer with Custom AI Companion (CAIC) licenses can use the MCP server configured within an app.

For customers with CAIC licenses, installing the app makes the MCP server's tools available in Zoom AI Studio. AI Studio admins can then select tools from connected MCP servers to configure their custom AI Companion.

App setup

Create or identify a remote MCP-compliant server that exposes tools or data your AI Companion should use. This might be internal knowledge bases, third-party platforms, or proprietary services.

  1. Retrieve the remote MCP server URL from your third-party platform or internal service (for example, Salesforce, PayPal, or another MCP-compliant system).
  2. Sign into the Zoom App Marketplace.
  3. Select the MCP tab.
  4. In the Connect modal, enter the following and then select Connect.
    • Name
    • Description (optional)
    • MCP server URL (e.g., https://mcp.paypal.com/mcp)

Activate and test

Once connected, tools exposed by your MCP server appear in AI Studio. Admins can immediately use them to build custom AI companions, and those tools become available to users in the account.

Dependencies and integration notes

  • Requires Custom AI Companion (CAIC) licenses for use within AI Studio.
  • Currently supports remote MCP servers only (local/on-prem servers are under consideration).
  • Zoom's MCP client supports server-sent events (SSE) and HTTP streamable transport methods.
  • This integration is intended for internal use. The MCP server is available for use within your Zoom account rather than published publicly.
